On 18 February, Göran Goldkuhl gave a presentation on practice research. Göran discussed practice research from an ontological as well as epistemological perspective. The discussion was lively ranging from Activity Theory over KPIs to Habermas, with a memorable remark from Göran, “some critique of Habermas acknowledges that life is more than an academic seminar”. Gustaf Juell-Skielse and Erik Perjons also contributed with their experiences of practice research.
IMAIL paper at CICLing 2011, Tokyo, February 21
Our paper from the IMAIL-project with the title Comparing Manual Text Patterns and Machine Learning for Classification of E-Mails for Automatic Answering by a Government Agency by H. Dalianis, J. Sjöbergh and E. Sneiders, were presented at CICLing 2011, 12th International Conference on Intelligent Text Processing and Computational Linguistics, February 20-26, Tokyo, Japan, by Jonas Sjöbergh who participates in the IMAIL project from KTH. The proceedings were printed in Springer Verlag.
The paper shows that a manual approach to create rules for answering e-mails (in Swedish) is more accurate than using a machine learning approach, though a machine learning approach gives higher recall.
CICLing had around 100 participants below a couple of photos.

Lättillgängliga journaler – rättighet med problem? Inlägg i Läkartidningen

Project EnRiMa – site visits in Bilbao and Oviedo
As a part of the EnRiMa FP7 project Naghmeh Aghaee and I, together with project partners from Great Britain and Austria, visited test-sites in Bilbao and Oviedo. The buildings at the test sites will be used for collecting data about energy consumption and energy transfers. In turn, this data will later be the foundation for creating a service-oriented decision support system. Currently the energy consumption and overall state of the software system can be remotely monitored and controlled. Besides the software being used, it was interesting to see how different, from a Swedish perspective, the heating of the buildings where done. In Spain it is quite common to use gas for heating, and the use of geothermal ground heat pumps is not common. During the spring we will start making a draft of the software architecture for the upcoming decision support system. For more information on the EnRiMa project, go to www.enrima-project.eu
