New joint Master programme in Health Informatics with Karolinska Institute is starting this fall 2010. Last application day is April 15.
A Presentation on Social Media
Last week I gave an invited presentation on social media at KTH X, which is the alumni association at KTH. The presentation covered the basics of social media and raised questions about the use of social media in work, the future of personal integrity, the emerging topology of Internet and many other issues. About 40 people had come to listen and particpate in the discussion.
Seminar on Business Process Management and Enterprise Architecture
Jens Ohlsson from IDS Scheer gave a lunch seminar on Business Process Management and Enterprise Architecture. Jens discussed the differences between an industrial and an academic view on these topics. He also presented the view of IDS Scheer on the future development in these areas. Thanks Jens for a nice presentation and a lively discussion!
Research group in IT Management within Information Systems Laboratory at DSV has joined the Swedish Research School of Management and IT (MIT)
On March 17, 2010 the members of our research group in IT management we have had a meeting with Professor Birger Rapp from Uppsala University and Dean of the Swedish Research School of Management and IT (MIT) / Forskarskolan Management och IT (MIT). The meeting was a fruitfully one and has initiating the start of joining the Swedish Research School of Management and IT by our research group in IT management. In this meeting I have made a presentation of our research work in IT management and summarise the results we have obtained till now in this area. Professor Birger Rapp has appreciated our work and has informed us that our research is fitting very well with the profile of the MIT and the cooperation between our research group and MIT could bring us many benefits in terms of financing our PhD students in the near future and also from research point of view too. The YAWL book
The YAWL book, i.e. the book Modern Business Process Automation: YAWL and its Support Environment
is now published.
The book is the result from a cooperation in which several universities have been involved (seven universities and one center). The leadership has been shared by Prof. Arthur ter Hofstede (QUT) and Wil van der Aalst (TUE), who together with Dr. Michael Adams and Dr. Nick Russell are editors of the book.
Prof. Paul Johannesson and Birger Andersson and myself contributed with chapter 16 of the book. Together with Dr.Chun Ouyang (QUT) and Prof. Marlon Dumas (UT), I was also involved in the work of chapter 15. (We did some of this work during Chun’s visit at DSV)
The book was written as a teaching book and includes a large number of exercises. As a teaching means we also developed extensive presentation-material. The book is highly relevant for our BPM courses and I am considering it as a candidate for course book for the BPDI (Business Process Design and Intelligence) course next year.
I received a copy of the book from my colleagues at QUT. The photo is from my visit at QUT in February 2010.
Visit at QUT – February 2010
In February 2010 I visited the BPM group at QUT for three weeks. Together with Prof. Arthur ter Hofstede and Dr. Marcello la Rosa, I am working on collecting and systematizing patterns for dealing with process models complexity. It is a continuation of the work we initiated during my visit to QUT last summer. The planned outcome of this cooperation is a conference paper, which we hope to be able to complete at the end of this month.
Accepted Paper "Stress Management 2.0 – A Holistic Approach to Self-management Online"
Hélène Sandmark and I have recently got a conference paper accepted at the International Multi-Conference on Complexity, Informatics and Cybernetics, within the conference theme Bio-Medical Informatics. The conference is to be held 6-9 April, in Orlando, Florida, USA. We are going to participate virtually.
The paper is entitled “Stress Management 2.0 – A Holistic Approach to Self-management Online”.
Abstract:
The last years have put stress management on the agenda of healthcare. Intense lifestyles with job and domestic demands let people experience high levels of stress and to react strongly to different stressors. Long-term sickness and absence from work can be a consequence of too high stress exposure during a long period of time. This negative trend can be counteracted if we allow a combination of actions to support people who experience stressful lives. Different online programs are available for people with stress symptoms. However, there is a lack of conceptual understanding and a holistic approach to learning online for this group of people. In this article, we present a holistic and integrated approach to ‘stress management 2.0’ that considers several areas: stress management, self-management, informatics and continuous learning through communication and feedback. The approach is based on findings from previous research studies of web based solutions for learning new lifestyles, stress management and results from clinical trials. At the end of the article, we present some design principles to be used for developing systems in accordance with ‘stress management 2.0’ from a holistic view.
